Winederland Episode 4: Vertical Wine Tasting Extravaganza

Welcome to episode 4 of Winderland, hosted by Giuseppe, broadcasting directly from Southern Italy. In this special installment, we delve into the intricate world of wine tasting examination, focusing on three core aspects: visual, olfactory, and taste olfactory.

Today's episode features an extraordinary vertical wine tasting session, showcasing two Barolo wines from Piemonte, both produced by De Simone. The spotlight is on the same grape variety, 100% Nebbiolo, but from two distinct vintages: 2019 and 2020. Get ready to explore the fascinating differences and nuances between these two exceptional wines.

Starting with the visual examination, Giuseppe describes the 2019 Barolo as having a beautiful garnet red hue with orange reflections, while the 2020 vintage exhibits a fading ruby red color with garnet tones. Both wines display a high consistency, indicative of their substantial alcohol content.

Moving to the olfactory analysis, Giuseppe notes the intense aromatic profiles of both vintages. The 2019 Barolo offers aromas of red cherry, red currant, dry herbs like thyme, purple flowers, and savory spices from the oak. In contrast, the 2020 Barolo is characterized by boysenberries, raspberries, dry red roses, and oak aromas such as cocoa, dark chocolate, and sweet cinnamon.

Finally, the taste olfactory examination reveals that both wines have a crisp acidity, with the 2019 vintage being slightly less tannic than the 2020. Both wines confirm their full-bodied structure, making them high-quality selections.
